Dr Joy Chakraborty is a Colorectal and General Surgeon. He performs operations both Robotically and Laparoscopically.

Dr. Chakraborty completed his surgical training in Queensland and was awarded with a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2012. Following this, he undertook three years of further subspecialist training in Colorectal Surgery. He spent his years of post-fellowship subspecialty training at The Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane; Bankstown and St. George Private Hospitals in Sydney and then at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Epworth Private Hospitals in Melbourne. He was awarded the Certificate of Training in Colorectal Surgery by The Australia and New Zealand Training Board in Colorectal Surgery (ANZTBCRS).

Dr. Chakraborty is an accredited Robotic Surgeon and completed his Robotic Surgical Training in Sunnyvale, California USA. He went to The Mayo Clinic, USA, The Cleveland Clinic, USA and The Epicentre of Robotic Surgery at Oklahoma Surgical Hospital in the United States of America at this time. Dr Chakraborty specialises in Minimally Invasive Surgery through research and advanced techniques of Laparoscopic and Robotic surgery. This minimises post-operative pain, reduces rates of infection, reduces complications, reduces length of hospital stay that optimises patient outcomes.

He is a member of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ), a member of General Surgeons Australia (GSA) and is fully accredited with the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) in Colonoscopy and Upper Endoscopy. Dr. Chakraborty holds public appointments at Princess Alexandra Hospital and Mater Hospital in Brisbane. He is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland and he thoroughly enjoys teaching medical students and trainee surgeons. He has published in peer reviewed journals and has presented his research at national and international conferences.

Dr. Chakraborty’s private practice is located at Greenslopes Private Hospital and at Mater Private Hospital, Brisbane. He provides prompt investigations and treatment for all Colorectal and General Surgical conditions. He also provides rapid access Endoscopy and Colonoscopy procedures to investigate concerning symptoms. He specialises in the most up to date treatments for bowel and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, rectal prolapse, faecal incontinence, and rectal bleeding. He performs minimally invasive procedures for haemorrhoids to minimise pain.

He treats all General Surgical conditions including hernia surgery, gall bladder surgery, small bowel resection, endoscopic pilonidal sinus surgery, and anal fistula surgery to name a few. All surgical treatments are based upon the principles of minimally invasive surgery to have maximum impact with minimal discomfort.
